I’ve always wanted to make stays/corset, but wasn’t too comfortable with the idea of boning. After much research, I decided to give my own idea a try where I used self fabric as the bones.
Materials: Canvas
The pattern ended up being 3 layers: the outside, inside where the “bones” are attached, and the lining.

The boning is 8 layers of canvas sewn together. They are about 3/8 inches wide.
After sewing the boning to the lining, I used a double needle to sew the inside to the main fabric.
Time to line it.
Then I added trim to the edges.
Next time for the eyelets
And finally I decided to clean up the inside trim a bit

And there you have it!! No boning bone stays!! I’m really happy how it turned out!!
